The AFL Victoria Best Community Football Facilities Awards annually recognises best practice in community football facility development across Australia, along with the people, clubs and other stakeholders driving our best projects.
To recognise the very best facilities projects fully completed and utilised in 2024, AFL Victoria is opening the nomination process up to Local Council's, AFL Victoria affiliated leagues and educational institutions.
The Victorian winner will be put forward as our State's nomination to the AFL's Ken Gannon Community Football Facilities National Award.
To be eligible, your project must be related to community level football and the project completed and venue used for our sport in the 2024 year.
These awards are funded by the AFL’s Australian Football Facilities Fund (AFFF) which aims to support the provision of well positioned, welcoming, accessible, fit for purpose football facilities that support our growing game’s strategic priorities.
They will also recognise the incredible service to Australian Football of over four decades by Ken Gannon, In a decorated career, Ken spent much of his last decade in the game developing the AFL's interest and partnerships in this space, leveraging $500 million of outcomes for more than 800 community football facility projects.
AFL AFFF AIM:
Support the provision of well positioned, welcoming, fit for purpose football facilities that support our growing game’s strategic priorities.
AFL AFFF OBJECTIVES:
1. Maximise the carrying capacity of existing venues and the quality / functionality of their supporting infrastructure.
2. Develop new and increased carrying capacity through construction of new ovals, especially in growing communities.
3. Provide inclusive and accessible facilities that cater for the diversity of participants, particularly female participants, that wish to participate in our game.
4. Develop venues to support the game’s complete talent pathway, umpiring, staff, landmark heritage sites and people working and volunteering within the game.
5. Enable planning and project partnerships to form with a range of government and non-government bodies to result in an improved quantity, quality and welcoming venue network for Australian football.
Case studies of all state and national winning projects will be developed with the overall winning project also being developed further in to a short video to showcase the best in community football facility development.
